Empowered for Ministry: Receiving the Baptism of Holy Spirit - Bluffton Service

Jun 7, 2026    Pastor Scott Ochsner

This powerful message challenges us to move beyond a powerless Christianity and embrace the supernatural empowerment that God intends for every believer. Drawing from Acts 1:8 and the account of Pentecost in Acts 2, we're reminded that there's a crucial distinction between having the Holy Spirit within us at salvation and having the Holy Spirit upon us for power. Jesus commanded His disciples not to begin their ministry until they received this power—the same dunamis power that enabled Him to perform signs, wonders, and miracles. The teaching confronts a sobering reality: many Christians today are like ships with sails but no wind, or guns without ammunition. We have the form of godliness but deny the power that could make us godly. When the Apostle Paul encountered believers in Ephesus, his first question wasn't about their church affiliation or theological knowledge—it was 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?' This same question applies to us today. The message calls us to examine whether we're settling for a boring, powerless Christianity or pursuing the fullness of what God has made available. We're challenged to consider what our communities would look like if we actually operated in the supernatural power that raised Jesus from the dead—praying for the sick, seeing miraculous healings, and being bold witnesses for Christ in every sphere of influence.
